Meet Our Founder

Ms. Uwicyeza Bernadette
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Ms. UWICYEZA is the CEO of Mediation Home Rwanda. She is an ADR Expert, court accredited mediator, trainer in mediation with Edwards Mediation Academy and founding member of Mediation Home Rwanda.
Since 2017, Ms. Uwicyeza is an ADR Advisor to the Judiciary and Coordinator of the Court Mediation Advisory Committee established in 2020 to oversee the development of mediation in the court system. She assisted the judiciary in the design and implementation of the existing court mediation system. She prepared Mediation Practice Directions to guide the practice in courts and prepared support tools for management and monitoring of referrals to mediation.
Ms. UWICYEZA organizes and facilitates mediation skills training for judges, registrars, members of the Bar association and other professional associations that are progressively joining the mediation skills training program implemented on the behalf of the judiciary by Edwards Mediation Academy and Mediation Home Rwanda. She consulted on other ADR projects; national expert with ILPD for the preparation of the ADR policy commissioned by the Ministry of Justice, national expert for the development of a guide on employment mediation and preparation of guide for mediation in citizens complaints handling for the Office of Ombudsman.
Ms. Uwicyeza was appointed first Secretary General of the Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) in 2012 and led the operationalization of the Centre until 2015 when she stepped down from her managerial position to focus on mediation practice development in Rwanda.
Prior to joining KIAC, she worked as Legal consultant to the Ministry of East African Affairs under the Trade Mark East African Project to support regional integration, providing strategic legal inputs to the country position in negotiations for regional integration. She also served as a legal consultant to the Ministry of Justice under the World Bank Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project, managing the business law reform program from 2006 to 2011.
Ms. Uwicyeza is mediator at the Global Mediation Panel of the Office of the Ombudsman for UN Funds and programmes, member of the Weinstein International Foundation, a network of more than a hundred mediation promoters worldwide.
Ms. UWICYEZA holds a DEA (Diplome d’Etudes appronfondies) in European Union Law Obtained at the Centre of European Law Studies of the Faculty of Law, University of Rennes I (France)
